Billie Jo Hopwood is a lifetime resident of Melbourne, Florida. Native to the Space Coast she attended Meadowlane Elementary, Johnson Junior High and graduated from Eau Gallie High School. She received her Bachelor`s Degree in Legal Studies from the University of Central Florida and worked as a paralegal before attending law school. Ms. Hopwood graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida A & M University College of Law.

Her extensive paralegal experience focused primarily in the areas of criminal defense, personal injury and family law.   Family law is her principal areas of practice. She is a member of the Brevard County Bar Association and the Florida Justice Association.

Introduction:
Billie Jo Hopwood was born and raised in Brevard County, Florida where she continues to reside and practice law. Ms. Hopwood is well-known and respected in the community. She has an extensive legal background which includes experience in a wide array of areas to include criminal law, personal injury and family law. Ms. Hopwood now focuses her practice primarily on family law, including divorce, child support, adoptions, name changes, custody, paternity and modifications.

Education:
After graduating from Eau Gallie High School in Brevard County, Florida, Ms. Hopwood received her bachelor’s degree in legal studies from the University of Central Florida in 1990. While working as a paralegal in private practices, Ms. Hopwood went on to attend Florida A&M University College of Law. Graduating sixth in her class with the prestigious designation of Magna Cum Laude, she was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2008.

Career & Legal Experience:
While working as a paralegal for seventeen years in private practices, Ms. Hopwood gained extensive experience in the fields of criminal defense and family law. Ms. Hopwood had the opportunity clerk for Brevard County Circuit Court Judge George W. Maxwell III.
While attending Florida A&M University College of Law, Ms. Hopwood interned for the well-known Brevard County law firm of Platt Jacobus Fielding Ville Trial Lawyers. After obtaining her law degree in 2008, she was hired full time by the firm as an associate. In March of 2011 she partnered with Jack Platt to form the firm of Platt Hopwood Attorneys At Law PLLC.
