Bobby was born in Charleston, South Carolina on October 5, 1944. He is a graduate of the University of the South (B.A., 1966) and the University of South Carolina School of Law (J.D., 1969) where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi Fraternity and was a member of the South Carolina Law Review.
He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar, United States District Court, District of South Carolina and United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit in 1969. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States in 1987. Mr. Hood was Assistant Attorney General of the State of South Carolina from 1969 to 1970. He is a member of the Charleston County and American Bar Associations, the South Carolina Bar (Chairman, Ethics Advisory Committee, 1983 – 1990), South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association (President, 1980-81), Association of Defense Trial Attorneys (President, 1985-1986), Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel, International Association of Defense Counsel, American Board of Trial Advocates (President, Charleston Chapter, 1997), Defense Research Institute (Board of Directors, 1987-1990).
Mr. Hood is listed in The Best Lawyers in America under civil trial and corporate trial categories, in The Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers and in Best’s Guide to AAA Insurance Firms. His areas of practice include commercial litigation, construction, medical and legal malpractice, personal injury, product liability, including drug and medical devices, toxic torts and general civil litigation.
