Gary Short has practiced in the employee benefits and executive compensation area for more than 25 years, advising clients on all aspects of the design and operation of employee benefit and executive compensation programs. He routinely counsels clients, including public and private companies and their executives, about the treatment of employee benefits and executive compensation arrangements in mergers and acquisitions. He also assists clients in structuring ERISA plan asset investment vehicles and analyzes whether such vehicles are appropriate investments for pension plans. He provides advice to governmental agencies on regulatory matters relating to qualified retirement plans and helps clients "correct" plan defects. He has governmental plan experience and has advised boards of trustees and governmental entities on pension and welfare plan issues.
Gary's representative clients include Ecolab, Harman International, and Potash Corporation. Recent representative M&A transactions include Toni & Guy's $410 million sale of its global hair products business to Unilever, the Weir Group's $650 million acquisition of SPM Flow Control, and Dennis Publishing's sale to Quadrangle Capital Partners.
Gary has been the chair of the Dallas Bar Association's Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Section and a director of the Dallas Benefits Society. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America in employee benefits law since 1995 and has been selected as a "Texas Super Lawyer" in employee benefits law since 2003.
