Holmes, William J.

Dr. Holland focuses his practice on various matters related to the procurement, evaluation and management of intellectual property in the biotech, chemical and pharmaceutical sciences.  He has represented Fortune 500 companies, universities and start-up companies as well as individual entrepreneurs.

Dr. Holland's practice includes patent preparation and prosecution, opinion drafting, including patentability, clearance and infringement/invalidity opinions, Hatch-Waxman strategies and opinions as well as transactions relating to licensing and acquisitions.  In addition, he has had extensive experience in international and foreign patent prosecution.

Having had nearly twenty years of experience as an attorney working on intellectual property law matters, Dr. Holland has been a partner in the Life Sciences group of large multinational law firms.  Prior to becoming an attorney, Dr. Holland was a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry where he headed a discovery research laboratory as well as a regulatory pharmacology group.

Having received his undergraduate degree in chemistry and mathematics, he obtained his masters and Ph.D. degrees in cell physiology and biochemistry.  He graduated cum laude to receive his J.D. degree.
