Ms. Shemtob is a founding partner of Shemtob Law, P.C., a full service family law firm, where she concentrates her practice exclusively on divorce, which includes handling matters of equitable distribution, alimony, custody, child and spousal support, prenuptial agreements, property settlement agreement and other family law matters. She is an experienced litigator, having handled hundreds of divorce, custody, child and spousal support, and equitable distribution matters for Delaware Valley residents for over 20 years.
Ms. Shemtob is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, (AAML), a national honor bestowed on only 67 lawyers in Pennsylvania. She is one of 15 lawyers in the State certified by the AAML as a family law arbitrator. She is also a family law mediator.
Ms. Shemtob has been selected by Philadelphia Magazine as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. This honor is given to only 5% of attorneys in the state. The Super Lawyer selection process includes peer nominations, independent research of attorneys, and a blue ribbon panel review process. In 2009 and 2010, Ms. Shemtob was selected as one of the Top 50 Women Attorneys in the state of Pennsylvania as published in Philadelphia Magazine. She was also named one of the Ten Leaders of Greater Philadelphia for Matrimonial & Divorce Law in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
Her list of other impressive accomplishments is long. A past chairperson of the Family Law Section of the Montgomery Bar Association and former member of its Board of Directors, Ms. Shemtob currently serves on the Board of Managers of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the AAML. In addition, Ms. Shemtob is a Co-Editor of Case Notes for the Pennsylvania Family Lawyer. She was also recently appointed to be a Director of the Pennsylvania Bar Foundation. She formerly served on the Council of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Family Law Section and was recently reappointed on the Judiciary Committee of the Montgomery Bar Association. Ms. Shemtob is a frequent lecturer for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the Montgomery Bar Association and professional groups of psychologists, matrimonial counselors, social workers, nurses, financial planners and more. She has also been a guest lecturer on family law issues at Temple University Beasley School of Law and the Earle Mack School of Law at Drexel University.
In the last several years, Ms. Shemtob has appeared on CN8 Money Matters with Mary Carriccioli, CNN Headline News and CN8's It's Your Call with Lynn Doyle. She has also been a guest on CN8's Newsmakers, the Irv Homer Radio Show and the Philadelphia Agenda with Brad Segall explaining the ramifications of recent amendments to the Pennsylvania Divorce Code. Channel 10 News has also called on Ms. Shemtob for assistance with its Legal Hotline.
A cum laude graduate of Temple University School of Law (J.D. 1987), Ms. Shemtob received her undergraduate degree, cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts (B.A. 1977).
