Ray Sheen represents policyholders in complex insurance coverage disputes. He has advised clients — often technology companies — on matters involving general liability, errors and omissions, directors and officers, and environmental policies, as well as numerous other forms of insurance. He also has extensive experience defending product liability and other consumer class actions.
Prior to joining Jones Day, Ray's representations included work on behalf of Adobe to recover defense and indemnification for claims relating to end-user license agreements, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and editable font embedding. He also represented Sony Computer Entertainment America in litigation to recover defense and indemnity costs for class actions alleging damages and defects in connection with PlayStation® and PlayStation2®.
In addition, Ray represented PG&E in an insurance coverage lawsuit filed by AIG affiliates that sought reimbursement of $24 million in payments made to settle property damage claims arising out of a wildfire in Sonoma County, California. After a seven-week trial, the jury returned a verdict in PG&E's favor.
Ray coauthored (with Marty Myers) an article on recovering insurance proceeds for intellectual property claims, entitled "Cold Hard Cash for Soft IP Disputes" (Jones Day Practice Perspectives, April 2009).
