Peer rated "AV Preeminent" by Martindale-Hubbell for more than ten years and a Legal 500 "recommended lawyer" for policyholder-side insurance recovery work, Catherine Serafin is a Washington, DC-based partner in Dickstein Shapiro's Insurance Coverage Practice. She has extensive experience resolving complex insurance disputes on behalf of policyholders and has obtained hundreds of millions of dollars in insurance recoveries through settlements as well as bench and jury trials. Her work involves coverage for securities, product liability, and environmental claims; business interruption losses; defamation; and construction defect claims. Ms. Serafin's experience has encompassed many types of policyholders, including large corporations, municipalities, and individual company officers, as well as many different policy types, including commercial liability, directors and officers, errors and omissions, and first-party property policies. She has worked in a variety of forums, from mediation to arbitration to trials in both state and federal courts, and has successfully represented Fortune 100 companies and governmental policyholders at trial.
Ms. Serafin has lectured and written extensively on insurance issues and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. She has authored and coauthored numerous articles and has been a frequent lecturer at programs sponsored by The Practicing Law Institute, The Risk and Insurance Management Society, Federal Publications, and the American Bar Association, among others. She has also appeared on Court TV in an educational program regarding insurance dispute litigation. In 2012, Benchmark Plaintiff named Ms. Serafin a national and local (Washington, DC) "Litigation Star."
