Ms. Segal graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1999. Thereafter, Heather attended Chapman University, receiving her multiple subject teaching credential in 2003. She first worked with Transitions Mental Health as a youth counselor advocating for at-risk teens. In 2004, Ms. Segal became an elementary school teacher with the Orcutt Unified School District, first teaching kindergarten and then fourth grade. In 2005, Ms. Segal realized her true calling and began attending law school while working as a clerk for the law corporation of James R. Murphy, Jr. During her coursework, Ms. Segal also spent time interning with the Family Law Facilitator's Office of the San Luis Obispo Superior Court and worked under the direction of the Family Law Bench at the San Luis Obispo courthouse. Ms. Segal received her Juris Doctor, with honors, from Santa Barbara College of Law in 2008. In 2009, Heather became an associate attorney with Duenow Law Office.
