Michael Heyison is a partner in the firm's Litigation/Controversy Department, and a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation and Business Trial Groups. He joined the firm in 1982. Mr. Heyison serves as General Counsel to the firm and is Co-Chair of the Ethics Committee and the Litigation/Controversy Department's Standing Committee on Privilege.
Mr. Heyison has represented clients in the semiconductor, software, computer, medical device and Internet fields in patent, trade secret and competition disputes. For a number of years, he has represented nuclear power plants in alleged radiation-induced injury cases. In connection with these and other cases, he has substantial experience in evaluating the reliability of expert testimony under Daubert principles. Recently, Mr. Heyison has represented technology clients in patent and other litigation in federal and state courts and before the Federal Trade Commission. In 2003, Mr. Heyison received the Paul B. Brountas Award for extraordinary contributions to the firm.
Mr. Heyison received a JD degree from Harvard Law School, and a BA, summa cum laude, from Yale University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Mr. Heyison is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and in the District of Columbia.
