Ms. Schutt is a senior associate attorney with Wick & Trautwein, LLC. She joined the firm in July 1997 after working for two years as the law clerk for the Hon. William F. Dressel in the Larimer County District Court. Ms. Schutt practices extensively in the civil litigation arena, with an emphasis in personal injury, construction defects, governmental immunity and insurance law. She has served as an appellate advocate in these areas as well, handling the briefing and oral arguments in numerous matters before the Colorado Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Colorado and the federal appellate courts of the Tenth Circuit. While Ms. Schutt is experienced in the courtroom, she also regularly assists clients with estate planning and general business matters as well.
Originally from the Chicago area, Ms. Schutt received her B.A. in political science from the University of Illinois in 1992, graduating magna cum laude and earning membership in Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She was a Bronze Tablet Scholar, an honor bestowed on the top 3% of each graduating class at the University of Illinois, as well as a member of the esteemed Senior 100 Honorary for her excellence in academics and extracurricular involvement at the University. In 1995, she received her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she again graduated with high honors, earned an award for excellence in legal drafting and was inducted into the Order of the Coif honorary. Although her law degree is from Chicago-Kent, she moved to Colorado in 1994 and spent her third year of law school as a visiting student at the University of Colorado School of Law. She has lived and worked in Colorado ever since.
Ms. Schutt is actively involved in both the Colorado Bar Association and Larimer County Bar Association. She has been a member of the CBA Litigation Section Council since 2000, serving as both its chair and secretary. She also was very active with the young lawyer divisions of both bar associations for many years. Most recently, Ms. Schutt was privileged to be in the 2008 graduating class of COBALT, the Colorado Bar Association's esteemed leadership training program.
Ms. Schutt lives with her husband and two children in Windsor, where she is currently President of the Tozer Primary School PTAC. She has helped coach her children's sports teams and has participated with Amy's Angels in the North Weld Relay for Life for the past three years. Ms. Schutt also spent several years serving on the Board of Directors for Partners Mentoring of Larimer County, a local non-profit organization which provides mentors for at-risk youth.
