Mr. Schmitt's practice is focused on real estate and litigation matters. Mr. Schmitt has litigated dozens of land use cases as well as a myriad of other matters from general real estate and business disputes to administrative appeals and condemnation cases in federal and state court. Mr. Schmitt also represents several national and local businesses as a trusted advisor and attorney.
In addition, Mr. Schmitt is a State Senator representing the 15th Senate District in St. Louis County. He was elected in 2008. Mr. Schmitt has focused his efforts in the legislature primarily on issues related to job creation, economic development and health reform. Mr. Schmitt serves on the Jobs, Economic Development and Local Government standing committee and the Health, Mental Health, Seniors and Families (Vice Chairman) standing committee. He was also selected to serve on two 2020 Committees – Job Creation and Healthy Missourians (which he chairs) – chartered to map out Missouri’s long term vision in these two critical areas of public policy.
Prior to entering the Senate, Mr. Schmitt served as a Glendale, Missouri Alderman. He is active in a number of bar associations, including The Missouri Bar where he is a member of the Executive Committee and serves as Chairperson of the Young Lawyers' Section Council. He has been an elected representative to the YLS Council from St. Louis County since 2003. Mr. Schmitt also led the 2006 YLS Council Giving Tree Committee in a very successful campaign to assist Big Brothers, Big Sisters organizations throughout Missouri. Mr. Schmitt was a founding member and served as President for a Habitat for Humanity chapter in Northeast Missouri, has organized Habitat for Humanity work days in the St. Louis area and is active with TS Alliance, an organization dedicated to helping individuals and families affected by Tuberous Sclerosis.
