Greg Hartwig is a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group and leads the Life Sciences Industry Group. As a patent prosecutor, Mr. Hartwig makes it a priority to understand his clients' business goals and strategies, and clients often view him as an extension of their team. This enables Mr. Hartwig to provide practical, business-minded advice in addition to proactive legal counsel.
His practice focuses on securing U.S. and foreign patents on life sciences (e.g., therapeutics and medical devices) and chemical inventions. Mr. Hartwig also has experience preparing both non-infringement and invalidity opinions, counseling clients regarding non-infringement options, and advising clients with respect to life sciences and chemically-related patent infringement litigation and reexaminations.
Mr. Hartwig works extensively with a variety of national research institutions and universities across the country. He is an architect of Michael Best's University Practice Program, which provides a variety of features designed to develop close, value-added working relationships with technology transfer offices and faculty, and establish Michael Best as a strategic partner with our university clients. Mr. Hartwig also represents several multi-billion dollar, multi-national specialty chemical companies, as well as start-up companies and university spin-offs focused in the life sciences area.
