Kristin Tyler Harris is an associate with Brody, Hardoon, Perkins & Kesten, LLP. She has represented clients in the District and Superior Courts of Massachusetts, as well as in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  In recognition of her accomplishments as one of the state's outstanding young laywers, Ms. Harris has been named a New England Rising Star by Boston Magazine in the New England Super Lawyers magazine every year since 2009.

Practice Areas

Ms. Harris represents both plaintiffs and defendants.  However, she concentrates primarily in the area of defense of personal injury, contract and property damage claims. Representative claims include the following:

  • Property defects
  • Unnatural accumulation of ice and snow
  • Negligent security
  • Negligent home inspection
  • Dram shop claims
  • Breach of contract
  • Violations of chapter 93A
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Construction site accidents

Ms. Harris recently assisted in the representation of a construction and development company, and its owner in a personal capacity, in a suit alleging negligence, at trial in the Superior Court. Ms. Harris successfully obtained a verdict for the defendant in that case, with the jury finding no negligence on the part of her client.

Ms. Harris also represents municipalities in claims brought pursuant to the Massachusetts Tort Claims Act and the Massachusetts and United States Civil Rights Acts. These claims include the following:

  • Malicious prosecution
  • Abuse of process
  • Discrimination
  • Civil rights violations

Ms. Harris has been successful in obtaining pre-trial dismissals of claims against municipalities for lack of jurisdiction and insufficient evidence. Ms. Harris recently assisted in the representation of two patrol officers, a Chief of Police and former Chief of Police at trial in the United States District Court. The Plaintiff had alleged that his civil rights were violated by the issuance of criminal charges against him following his appeal of the revocation of his firearms license.

Prior Experience

Before joining Brody, Hardoon, Perkins & Kesten, LLP, Ms. Harris was in private practice, specializing in civil litigation. In law school, she participated in the Suffolk Voluntary Defender's Program, representing indigent clients in the Boston Municipal Court. She has also worked as an intern for the Suffolk Superior Court Probation Department.

Education

Ms. Harris received her bachelor's degree in English and Sociology, cum laude, from Boston College. In 2002, she received her law degree, magna cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School, where she was a member of the Transnational Law Review.
