Dave is Of Counsel in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. He is based in our Minneapolis office, is a member of the Business Litigation Section and Construction Law Practice Group and has served on the firm's board of directors. Dave practices principally in the areas of:
Dave concentrates his practice in the areas of construction contract drafting, residential construction defect disputes and design malpractice. He has extensive experience with mediation and arbitration of both commercial and residential construction-related disputes. Dave has also counseled public and private clients on the impact of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 on facility design and construction issues.
Dave has written and lectured extensively on design and construction issues for various organizations, including Association Contractor Magazine, The Cornerstone Journal , the Minnesota Institute of Legal Education, Minnesota CLE, Minnesota Multi-Housing Association, Minnesota County Attorneys Association, Minnesota Government Finance Officers Association, The University of Minnesota CCE, and Mankato State University.
Dave is a member of the legislative subcommittee of the Construction Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association and serves on the governing committee for this section. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District Court of Minnesota and the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, and is also a member of the Hennepin County Bar Association. He serves on the construction industry panel for Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association and is listed on the Minnesota ADR Statewide Neutrals Roster, as well as the American Arbitration Association's Dispute Resolution Directory. He has also been selected as a “Leading American Attorney” and designated a "Super Lawyer" by Minnesota Law & Politics.Dave is currently chair of the Arden Hills Planning Commission.
Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dave received his B.A. cum laude from St. Olaf College. Prior to entering law school, he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1972. Dave graduated from Duke University Law School, where he was on the board of editors of the Duke Legal Research and Writing Program. He joined Briggs in 1975.
