Hanson, Eric P.

Claudio Salas is a counsel in the Litigation/Controversy Department, and a member of the International Arbitration Practice Group. He joined the firm in 2010.

Mr. Salas currently represents clients in diverse industries in commercial and investment arbitrations under the ICC, ICSID, ICDR and UNCITRAL rules. Recent highlights include successful arbitration outcomes in the representation of a major medical device manufacturer, the representation of a major insurance company, and the representation of a major financial institution.

Past Experience

Mr. Salas has seven years of experience working on complex international arbitration and litigation in a variety of forums. A native Spanish speaker, he frequently handles disputes originating in Latin America. Past matters include an ICSID arbitration in connection with an oil company’s multi-billion-dollar expropriation claim against the government of Ecuador, sovereign debt litigation in the S.D.N.Y. and Second Circuit Court of Appeals concerning an investment fund’s $700 million judgment enforcement action against the government of Argentina, a litigation in the DC Circuit Court of Appeals concerning a Cuban state-owned company's challenge of the United States Treasury's OFAC regulations, and a representation in connection with the Case Concerning Pulp Mills on the River Uruguay (Argentina v. Uruguay) in the International Court of Justice.

Prior to joining WilmerHale, Mr. Salas was an associate with a large law firm in New York, where he was active in immigration and housing pro bono matters and completed a six-month secondment with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.
