Lawrence B. Hammet II, devotes his practice to construction law and other commercial and business legal matters, including business organizations and contracts. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Mississippi in 1980. After graduating from the University of Mississippi, he was employed by a major highway and heavy construction company and served as Project Manager, Area Manager, and ultimately Vice-President. His duties included estimating and negotiations, as well as day-to-day management and scheduling for various projects in the southeastern portion of the United States. He returned to law school and earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1989. Following law school, he was employed with a large Nashville law firm where he devoted the majority of his practice to construction law and commercial litigation, and became a partner of the firm in 1995. In 1998, he co-founded the Nashville law firm of Smith & Cashion, PLC and joined Todd & Floyd in 2003.

He has been involved in numerous arbitrations, mediations and trials at the State and Federal level in representing various parties doing business in the construction industry. His experience includes legal representation and counseling to parties involved in major commercial and industrial construction projects, residential construction projects, civil and utility construction projects. Mr. Hammet has also been involved in the preparation of the various documents comprising project delivery packages for utilization on construction projects.

Additionally, Mr. Hammet devotes a significant amount of time to counseling, negotiation and formation of business organizations, and other related transactional work. He has experience in negotiating the agreements governing the operations of corporations, limited partnerships and limited liability companies, as well as the various contracts, agreements and licenses and other third parties, required to conduct the intended business. He also has experience in the negotiation and preparation of the necessary agreements governing and required for commercial property transactions and commercial property development.

Mr. Hammet is a member of the Nashville, Tennessee Alabama and American Bar Associations, including membership in the ABA Construction Law Forum and the ABA Section of Business Law. Mr. Hammet is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America. Mr. Hammet has served on the Governing Board of the Middle Tennessee Branch of the Associated General Contractors.

He often provides lectures on construction law before members of the Tennessee Bar Association, the Nashville Bar Association, the Associated General Contractors, the Associated Builders and Contractors and the Tennessee Road Builders Association. In addition, he has presented construction related seminars for Lorman Education Services and the National Business Institute. He has co-authored several publications, including “A Practical Guide to Tennessee Construction Law” and “Tennessee Construction Law”.

Mr. Hammet serves as a Member of the Alumni Advisory Board for the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, as well as holding the position of President of the Nashville Cumberland School of Law Alumni Association. Mr. Hammet also serves on the Alumni Advisory Board for Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia. Mr. Hammet is a volunteer at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
