Peggy J. Ryan joined Sorling, Northrup, Hanna, Cullen & Cochran, Ltd. in 1990 after graduation from law school. Ms. Ryan concentrates her practice in the areas of divorce, post-divorce, child custody, visitation, child support, grandparents' rights, parentage, antenuptial agreements, domestic violence, guardianship, and probate proceedings. Ms. Ryan practices in courts throughout Central Illinois and has argued a number of cases before the Fourth District Appellate Court of Illinois.
During law school at Southern Illinois University, Ms. Ryan was Notes and Comments editor of the Southern Illinois University Law Journal and published two articles: "The Sixth Amendment Right to Counsel: A Criminal Defendant's Right to Counsel of Choice v. the Courts' Interest in Conflict Free Representation;" and "The Status of Civil Liability when Child Protection Workers Fail to do Their Jobs." Ms. Ryan's article dealing with child protection workers won her law school's award for best student article.
Ms. Ryan is a member of the American, Illinois State and Sangamon County Bar Associations. She is also a member of the Lincoln-Douglas Inns of Court and is a fellow of the Illinois Bar Foundation. In 2005, Ms. Ryan was appointed as a member of the Fourth District Committee on Character and Fitness, and was also appointed to serve on a screening committee for selection of judges in the Seventh Judicial Circuit of Illinois. Ms. Ryan has presented at a number of seminars addressing family law issues.
