Susan Haines' practice focuses on complex litigation, including product liability, toxic tort, and antitrust. She has been involved in many successful legal representations, including participating in the defense of IBM in the In re IBM San Jose Workers' Litigation filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court on behalf of more than 45 employees alleging personal injury claims due to chemical exposure in the workplace. A 12-person jury returned a unanimous defense verdict at the conclusion of the precedent setting, five-month trial of two of the plaintiffs. She also participated in the defense of IBM in multiple civil actions filed by more than 150 plaintiffs in New York state court alleging that workplace exposures caused cancer and other diseases in IBM employees or birth defects in their offspring. Susan's pretrial experience includes not only discovery and motion practice but also work with experts in many areas, including industrial hygiene, laboratory analysis, chemistry (as it pertains to semiconductor technologies and manufacturing processes), computational fluid dynamics, toxicology, and medical causation.
