Anita began her career at The Law Offices of Jonathan Merel, P.C. as a law clerk in March 2011 and became an associate at the firm in November 2012 after passing the Illinois Bar Exam.

Anita handles all stages of divorce cases and custody disputes and works diligently with clients on all matters such as discovery, calculation of child support and child support arrearages, division of property, valuation of property, analysis of financial information, settlement, and litigation. She is a zealous advocate for her clients and always prioritizes her clients’ concerns and goals, making her a huge asset to the firm. Anita makes every effort to amicably settle disputes, but fervently represents her clients’ interests in the courtroom when settlement is not an option.

Before joining The Law Offices of Jonathan Merel, Anita worked as a law clerk at a small family law firm in the suburbs of Chicago, where she developed a passion for family law. She also developed crucial experience while working as a law clerk at The Law Offices of Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she used her 711 law student license to represent plaintiffs in various employment discrimination and wrongful termination cases.

Anita graduated from the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign with Bachelor’s degrees in History and English (2008), where she was named to the Dean’s Honor List. She then went on to earn her Juris Doctor at Chicago-Kent College of Law (2012). In law school, Anita focused most of her studies on issues related to family law and was named to the Dean’s List.

Anita is a member of the American Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Northwest Suburban Bar Association, and the Advocates Society, a bar association for attorneys of Polish descent. Anita is also fluent in the Polish language.
