Called one of "the nation's top litigators" by The National Law Journal and "the top product liability attorney in the United States," by Japan's Nikkei newspapers, Ted Grossman has tried cases and argued appeals in celebrated matters throughout the country. He has an unbroken record of victories spanning decades.
Ted most often is asked to lead teams on behalf of defendants facing particularly large or threatening product liability, commercial, or regulatory litigation. He also has represented plaintiffs in commercial litigation, obtaining hundreds of millions on clients' behalf. Recent representations include Bayer, FirstMerit, R.J. Reynolds, Wendy's/Arby's, and Zimmer. Arguing on behalf of all defendants, Ted recently obtained decertification of a nationwide consumer fraud class action for marketing of "light" cigarettes — the largest class action in United States history. In regulatory and constitutional litigation, Ted has served as lead counsel in cases brought by or against virtually every federal department. He regularly advises boards, CEOs, and general counsel of leading clients.
Ted is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Law Institute. He is listed in the Chambers USA guide to leading lawyers (2009) (three separate listings: commercial litigation, product liability, and tobacco defense), The Best Lawyers in America (2009), and many similar lists. He was profiled in the National Law Review's "Winning" supplement (as the tobacco industry's "stopper" for winning high-profile trials after others suffered losses) and in its "Defense Verdicts of the Year." He has widely lectured, published, and appeared in national print and televised media.
