Jonathan D. Gordon, Esq. has many years of experience in a variety of settings as a matrimonial and family law attorney, and in his previous career as a Clinical Psychologist. After working in various matrimonial firms and the Family Court for a number of years, it became apparent that he could utilize his skills better using his own interpersonal style in an independent professional setting.

Accordingly he began his own practice of Matrimonial and Family Law in the Fall of 2005 and soon became heavily immersed in this solo practice. He greatly enjoys the one-to-one, personalized interactions with clients, other attorneys and with the Courts. The clients appreciate that he is always accessible, responsive and truly understands what they are going through. It is a very stressful time in one's life, and it is important that clients feel that they are being heard and understood. They want a realistic assessment as to what they can expect (rather than vague reassurances that "everything will work out fine"). Clients also want their interests being represented in the most forthright and aggressive manner appropriate to their situation. They want honesty even if the truth is unpleasant. Jonathan D. Gordon's multifaceted career includes a previous appointment as Deputy Attorney General, representing DYFS in child protective and guardianship proceedings. When he represents clients who have DYFS issues, his previous inside experience and knowledge of the workings of the agency is particularly helpful to clients who need to understand the process and what faces them. His compassionate and experienced advocacy as well as his ability to effectively communicate with the Attorney General's Office will be of assistance to clients who need to be guided through the complex maze of regulations and Court appearances.

Occasionally in a high conflict divorce or child custody litigation, the Court appoints an attorney to represent the best interests of the child(ren) to the Court. This is called a Guardian ad litem (or GAL). This GAL answers to the Court, reports to the Court and appears in Court whenever you do. The GAL can obtain information regarding the child(ren)'s best interests from various sources such as the schools, therapists, pediatricians, family members and of course the children themselves. Home visits are made. This GAL can work with the attorneys of the parties, as well as with the parties themselves, to reach a settlement that will be good for the children and fair to the parents. Jonathan D. Gordon, Esq. has experience with-and great interest in--high conflict divorce and its effects on children, psychological issues in divorce, and re-marriage. He accepts appointments for this kind of work either directly from the Court, or by recommendation and consent of the attorneys.
