Robert Raphael obtained his B.A. degree in 1948 from the
Mr. Raphael was elected and served as President of the Allegheny County Bar Association in 1973. He was recognized by the University of Pittsburgh School of Law as distinguished alumni (2000) and selected by his peers as the Phillip W. Amran awardee (2008).
He is the co-author of the Pennsylvania Family Law Citator, Pennsylvania Law Discovery Forms and Pre-Nuptial Agreements in Pennsylvania, the author of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Quarterly's Annual Survey of Family Law from 1975 to present. He has also authored Divorce Reform At Long Last Maybe, Pittsburgh Legal Journal Monthly, December 1979; On the Road to Divorce Reform, Pennsylvania Law Journal, December 10, 1979; Negotiating the Marriage Settlement, New Jersey Family Lawyer, December 1983; and in 1977 was the co-author of Divorce in America: the Erosion of Fault, 81 Dickinson Law Review 719, 1977. He was a Contributing Editor to the Pennsylvania Family Lawyer from 1980 to 1982.

He is a member of the American
Mr. Raphael is a past President of the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the educational arm of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Since 1975 he has been a course planner and lecturer for many of the educational programs put on by the Institute in the area of family law. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Institute from 1981 through 1987. From 1985 to 1987 he co-chaired the Curriculum Planning Committee.
As a member of the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association, he was the Chairperson of the Committee on Divorce Law and Procedures, 1983-1984, and co-chaired the Divorce Committee, Northeastern Section, 1976-1977.
He served as a delegate in the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association from 1974 to 1981.
He has been an active participant with the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and in 1978 was the recipient of a Special Achievement Award from that organization. Among his other activities with the Pennsylvania Bar Association are: Chairman, Family Law Section, 1974-1978; Chairman, Family Law Section Committee on Drafting Divorce Reform Code, 1975-1978; Chairman, Family Law Section Committee on Drafting Rules of Civil Procedure for Support, 1976-1978; Vice Chairman, Specialization Committee, 1985-1987. He also served as a member of the following committees: Merit Selection of Judges, 1978-1981; Legal Biography and History, 1980-l983; Law Office Management, 1981-1982; Credentials and Admissions, 1989-1992. Lecturer at annual and mid-winter meetings. Member, House of Delegates, 1974-1978, 1982-1997.
Mr. Raphael was the President of the Joint Family Law Council of Pennsylvania from 1987 to 1989 after serving as Vice President from 1981 to 1987.
His other activities include Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1977; lecturer for the Pennsylvania College for the Judiciary, Domestic Relations Training Program, 1978-1982; lecturer on the Divorce Code at the Pennsylvania Trial Judges Association meeting in 1980; Chairperson of the Rules Planning Committee for Family Law, 1979 Pennsylvania Bar; member of the Supreme Court of Domestic Relations Task Force, 1979-80; lecturer for the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyer Association, 1988; course planner and lecturer for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute programs on Equitable Distribution, 1982, Divorce Code Amendments, 1988, Support Guidelines, 1989; member of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Domestic Relations Rules Committee, 1985-1994; member, House of Delegates, 1974-1978; course planner and lecturer for Dickinson Law School Family Law Programs, 1987-1990; lecturer for Law Education Institute, Inc., Vail, Colorado, 1990.
