Paul Deloughery graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law with honors in 1996. He was a partner in a home health agency immediately after law school, and then began practicing law in 1998. Since then, he has been practicing a combination of probate/estate planning and criminal defense law.

Paul is a fighter when it comes to helping people get out of messes. Paul knows firsthand the long term impact of childhood trauma and family chaos. Viewed from the outside, his childhood was comfortable. The family lived in a big house overlooking a country club, and they always seemed to have plenty of money. But his mom was mentally ill and was verbally abusive, and his dad was verbally and sometimes physically abusive. They both drank too much. Paul was sexually abused when he was 12 and 13. His dad died when Paul was 16, and his mom barely escape bankruptcy.Then in 2003, when Paul was 35 years old, he found out that his mom had been lying to him about who his father was. It turned out that his "dad" was actually his stepdad (even though he somehow had his stepdad's last name). Even though he has an Irish last name, played Irish music, grew up competing in Irish dance, and even won the All-Ireland bagpipe championship for his age category when he was 15 ... he is actually mostly German.Paul finally met his biological father for the first time in 2009, but he died six weeks later. It has taken Paul years to overcome this history. As a result, he has a deep understanding of human psychology, which allows him to better understand the dynamics underneath the legal issues.
