Gates, Sarah M.

Nat Garrett's practice is focused on appellate litigation, motions practice, and legal strategy in complex litigation. Nat has written briefs in the United States Supreme Court and in numerous federal and state appellate courts. His cases have spanned substantive legal areas such as labor law, the Equal Protection Clause, federal preemption, and ERISA.

Nat also has an active criminal appellate practice and is a member of the Criminal Justice Act Appeals Panel, representing indigent criminal defendants in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Nat was a member of the Jones Day team that represented the petitioner in Weyhrauch v. United States, challenging the validity of the federal honest services fraud statute as applied to public officials.

At Stanford Law School, Nat participated in the Supreme Court Litigation Clinic and won the Best Team and Best Brief awards for the 2006 Kirkwood Moot Court Competition.
