Gardner, Kurt A.

Richard A. DeMerchant, Esq. attended the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI, graduating in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.  He attended Bryant College in Smithfield, RI, where he received a Masters of Science in Taxation in 1986.

Richard worked as a CPA for 33 years, during which time he provided litigation support in IRS matters, damage calculations, marital disputes, shareholder conflicts as well as a wide range of general corporate and personal matters.  He also specialized in business accounting as well as non-profit and community organization financial planning.

Richard served as a volunteer for the Support Center for Community Accounting and Management Assistance, which provided cost-free accounting support services for community charitable organizations.  He was also the past treasurer for the Rhode Island Chapter, National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse.

After attaining his goals in the field of accounting and valuation, including a Master of Science in Taxation, a CPA and Certified Valuation Analyst License, and becoming administrative partner at Disanto Priest, one of Rhode Island’s largest accounting firms, Richard attended Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, RI, attending nights for four years and graduating in 2008 with a J.D.

In 2009, Richard opened the law firm of Delaney & DeMerchant LLC, in Providence, RI, concentrating in Family Law, Tax Law, Valuations and General Litigation.  In May, 2011, Richard joined Kevin Heitke and is presently a member of Heitke Law Office, LLC.
