Gerhard Pyper graduated from the University of South Africa with a Baccalauereus Procurationis, a Bachelor of Law Degree, a Magister Degree in Business Administration, and a Doctorate in Law. He also achieved National Accreditation from the University of Ottawa in a Bachelor of Law Degree.

Gerhard began practicing in South Africa in 1986, and joined the South African and Namibian Bar as a practicing Advocate (Barrister) in 1990.

Gerhard has participated in panel discussions as a South African delegate with the United Nations Committee on International Trade law (UNCITRAL). He is on the panel of Defence lawyers of the International War Crimes Tribunal in the Hague, Netherland. An International Lawyer, he has prepared contracts and appeared in various courts across Europe on international, criminal an civil litigation matters. Gerhard has been practicing in Canada since 2000. His scope of practice and expertise is wide, and includes family law, criminal law, and civil litigation matters.
