San Mateo attorney Donald L. Galine died on May 15, 2010 after a year-long battle with brain cancer.  He is survived by his wife Susan and his children Allison and Brett.

Don attended Hillsdale High School and CSM before graduating from college and law school.  Galine was known and respected as the attorney who fought for the underdogs, in cases against insurance companies and big businesses.  His passion was helping personal injury and workers' compensation victims and did so for over 30 years. He successfully won more than 200 verdicts for his injured clients, including his fair share of high profile cases.  In one case, Galine represented a woman who accused then-San Francisco 49er owner Eddie DeBartolo, Jr. of sexual assault.  The case settled and the parties agreed to keep the settlement confidential.  In recent years, Galine was a partner in the law firm Galine, Frye & Fitting.

He was very active in the Consumer Attorneys of California for many years, serving terms as Treasurer, Vice President and Governor Emeritus.  He received numerous awards throughout his career, to include the Trench Soldier Award (for Doing Battle in the Trench that was Above and Beyond the Call of Duty), the Hero Award, the Presidential Award of Merit and the Marvin E. Lewis award for continued guidance, loyalty and dedication.  Galine was also past President of the San Mateo County Trial Lawyers association and recently was voted the Trial Lawyer of the Year.

Don Galine was an accomplished swimmer in high school and college. His swimming success continued throughout his life and he even became the nationally-ranked no. 1 swimmer in his age group.  Even during his cancer treatment, he swam 1,200 meters a day and did not stop swimming completely until a few days before his death.

Don will be missed by everyone who knew him.  His partner Chantel Fitting who practiced with Don for nearly 10 years said it best.  Don was the most generous person you'll ever meet.  He was committed to representing clients who needed help the most and never once backed down from an insurance company.  He will be truly missed but we will continue the commitment in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate to one of the charities below or your favorite charity.  Don and his family appreciate your prayers and support.
