Mr. Portley has been a resident of Broward County, Florida since June 1968. Following his graduation from St. John's University School of Law, Mr. Portley returned to Florida having learned to love the sunshine state while attending the University of Florida. Since entering the private practice of law in December 1968, Mr. Portley has been an active civil litigation attorney as well as an active participant in both community and professional organizations. Mr. Portley has served as President of the North Broward Bar Association, Broward County Trial Lawyers Association and in 1990 he was elected President of the Broward County Bar Association. In addition, Mr. Portley has served on the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission and is currently President of the Broward Bar Association Foundation. In connection with his community service, Mr. Portley has been a coordinator for United Way, United Cerebral Palsy, a Director for the Broward Mental Health Association, Broward County Health Planning Council and the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra Foundation serving as that organization's President from 1993 through 1995. Mr. Portley is a member of the Florida Bar, Trial Bar of the Federal District Court, Southern District of Florida and was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States in 1979.
Mr. Portley continues his active private practice with an emphasis on Trust and Estate litigation as well as actively handling litigation involving commercial, corporate and real estate disputes.
