Brian Poissant has extensive experience representing companies in all areas of patent law, including patent procurement and portfolio management; patent opinion, licensing, and agreement work; and patent litigation and related appeals to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Brian advises both start-up and established companies with the design, creation, acquisition, management, licensing, and enforcement of patent portfolios.

Over the past 30 years, Brian has served as lead trial counsel in jury trials and other litigation involving a wide range of patents, including pharmaceutical and biotechnology products, infant formulas, medical and orthopedic devices, nutritional compositions, advanced magnetic materials, plastic compositions, sailboards, fiber-optic connectors, and jet engine fuel controls.

Brian has litigated before the U.S. International Trade Commission and recently obtained a general exclusion order against several foreign companies relating to advanced magnetic materials. In 1982, Brian won a judgment of more than $18 million in the U.S. Court of Claims for the former Bendix Corporation on its jet engine fuel control patent, which at the time was one of the largest judgments ever obtained in a patent action.

Brian is Chair of the Intellectual Property Practice at Jones Day. Prior to joining Jones Day, he was Chair of the Litigation Practice at Pennie & Edmonds. Brian is a frequent lecturer and has served on many bar association committees dealing with patent litigation and patent law. In addition, he is a former member of the Board of Directors of the New York Intellectual Property Law Association.
