Thomas H. Cypher earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Wayne State University in 1967, and received his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University in 1971. During law school, he worked full time for the Department of Defense and NASA as an assistant to a contract attorney.
He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Michigan State Bar Association. Tom is also a member of the National Council of Self-Insurers, the Michigan Self-Insurers' Association and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce. He served as an advisor to the director of the Workers' Compensation Bureau. Tom has achieved an "AV" rating in the Martindale Hubble Law Directory.
Tom has been a guest speaker on numerous occasions to the Michigan Self-Insurers' Association. He has given presentations at Grand Valley State University and with Ed Welch at Michigan State University's Graduate School. Tom has published numerous articles regarding developments in workers' compensation.
He has taken numerous cases to Michigan Court of Appeals and Supreme Court, including the Vasquez case that defines what Workers' Compensation Benefits illegal employees are entitled to receive.
In 2010, he was appointed to the Governor's Litigation Committee regarding reform of the Workers' Compensation practice in Michigan.
Tom has been a shareholder of Bleakley, Cypher, Parent, Warren & Quinn since its inception. He is a member of Ada Congregational Church and has been active with the Young Life Organization. He and his wife, Bonnie, have three sons and eight grandchildren.
