Originally from Flagstaff, Arizona, Matt Cox came to Springfield to attend the University of Oregon where he earned both his undergraduate degree and then his law degree in 1998. After graduation he began working as an Assistant District Attorney in the Lane County District Attorney’s office, Criminal Division. Matt worked there from September 1998 through April 2004 at which time he made the move to the firm (then named Harold, Leahy & Kieran).
Professionally, Matt is best known for his work in litigation (including criminal prosecution), family law, contracts, real estate disputes and arbitrations. In his own words, Matt identifies the one problem he is best at solving for his clients as, “Helping clients to make a sound decision whether or not they should settle the case or move forward with litigation. Understanding the costs and the pros and cons of litigation is a great help in explaining the situation to my clients.” And clients agree.
Matt is often described as being a hard worker, fair, and even as a fierce advocate who treats the other side with respect so as not to make the adversarial process more expensive or difficult by riling up the other side.
When asked about his professional passion, Matt is dedicated to working with victims of elder abuse (physical and financial) and helping them obtain justice. He also enjoys helping clients navigate through the court system.
When not at work, Matt can be spotted spending time with his wife and daughter, at the gym, or out on the ice playing hockey at the Lane County Ice Arena. Matt enjoys volunteering at the Willamalane Senior Center on their Senior Law Day. Other great activities Matt enjoys include crabbing on the coast, Ducks football and river rafting.
