Jeff Cotney is an attorney with Townes & Woods, P.C. Jeff focuses his practice on assisting families in obtaining Medicaid benefits for loved ones who may be facing the prospect of nursing home care.

Jeff’s practice also complements the firm’s workers’ compensation and Social Security Disability areas by helping disabled clients obtain benefits through insurance policies under which they were covered as a benefit of their employment. These policies are governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act, a federal law often referred to as ERISA.

In addition to working with clients on probate matters involving the administration of estates, guardianships, conservatorships, and adoptions, Jeff also works with clients to prepare wills, powers of attorney, advance directives and other documents relating to managing their affairs and estate planning.

Jeff received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Alabama and his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. While in law school, he served as an Editor of the Alabama Law Review and was a member of the Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society. Jeff is a member of the Alabama State Bar and the Birmingham Bar Association. Jeff is licensed to practice in all state courts within the State of Alabama, is licensed in the State of Tennessee, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama and the United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit.
