I was born in New York City on July 10, 1950. In 1954 my family moved to Teaneck, New Jersey where I attended Catholic grammar school. In 1964 I attended St. Joseph's Regional High school in Montvale, New Jersey and graduated in 1968. I attended Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania in 1968 and graduated in December 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. I remained at Villanova University and received a Master of Arts Degree in History in September 1973.
I attended law school at Fordham Law School and graduated in 1979. I began to work for Friedman, Kates & Pearlman in 1980 and was made a partner in 1983 when the name of the firm changed to Friedman, Kates, Pearlman & Fitzgerald, P.A. In 1996 I was certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Civil Trial Attorney. I have been with the firm for 31 years.
I practice in several areas of law, but primarily in the litigation field in such areas as personal injury litigation, commercial litigation, estate litigation, forgery defense litigation, and landlord-tenant litigation. I also handle probate and estate matters, commercial transactions, and residential and commercial closings.
I have been involved with several complex litigation matters one of which was tried for 7 1/2 weeks and resulted in a jury verdict for my client in the amount of $1,300,000. I have also dealt with large and complex estates, one of which became involved in extensive litigation.
I have represented large companies and banks such as National Community Bank of New Jersey, BankUnited, FSB, and Union Camp.
I have been married for 34 years and have three grown children. While I was raising my family I volunteered to participate in community activities, and continued to do so today. I was an adjunct professional for Fairleigh Dickinson University in its MBA program from 1983 –1985; I coached approximately 70 child athletic teams over a 16 year period from 1985 –2001; I mentored a disadvantaged child for 6 years until the child reached majority from 2004 – 2010; for the last 7 years, I have been an active Board Member of Zoe's Place Inc., a not-for-profit corporation which shelters and trains homeless teenage mothers, and I personally provide the teen moms with training and skills to become paralegals; I regularly donate blood to the Bergen County Blood Center for the last 16 years; I was appointed as a member for a municipal advisory board for affordable housing, and I sit as a contract arbitrator for the Superior Court of New Jersey in Bergen County.
