Doug Pearson practices intellectual property law with an emphasis on patent litigation and patent procurement. Doug's practice also includes rendering opinions on validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate and advising on patent strategy and portfolio development. His work generally involves electrical technologies, physics, and materials and spans many areas including digital cameras, software inventions, digital radio broadcasting, information processing and computational linguistics, display systems, optical devices, optical communication systems, semiconductor devices, semiconductor processing, lithography, vacuum systems, materials characterization, sensors and data processing, lasers, image processing, cryptography, signal processing, mobile internetworking, micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), optical interferometry, electron microscopy, piezoelectric devices, and emerging technologies such as clean energy technologies and nanotechnology.

Doug has a strong interest in emerging technologies and conducted nanotechnology research at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) from 1992 to 1999 in the areas of nanometer-scale semiconductor patterning, nano-patterned glass-fiber production, and synthesis and characterization of nanometer-scale semiconductor and metallic particles. Doug is active in the Firm's efforts in nanotechnology and other emerging technologies and participates in outside events in these areas.

Doug has coauthored numerous scientific articles and is a co-inventor on several U.S. patents. From 1992 to 1995, he held appointments at NRL as a National Research Council associate and an Office of Naval Research postdoctoral fellow.
