Matt is a shareholder in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. He practices principally in the areas of:

• Patent litigation
• Complex commercial litigation

Matt has successfully represented both patent holders and accused infringers in a variety of industries in patent infringement actions. He has also represented clients in disputes involving unfair competition, theft of trade secrets, deceptive trade practices and breach of contract.

Matt is admitted to practice in Minnesota and Illinois. He is a member of the Minnesota Intellectual Property Law Association (MIPLA) and its events committee. Matt is a volunteer mediator with Community Mediation Services, Inc., a nonprofit organization that assists in community, school and court mediations. He has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Minnesota Law & Politics.

Matt received his B.S.B. in business finance from the University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management. He received an LL.M. (with high honors) in financial services law and a J.D. (with high honors) from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif.  While attending law school, Matt was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society and served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Magistrate Judge Edward A. Bobrick of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Timothy J. McManus, First Judicial District of Minnesota. Matt joined Briggs in 2008.
