Katy Koestner Esquivel is an accomplished and persuasive litigator. For more than a decade, Katy has skillfully sought justice for her clients. She possesses a broad understanding of the law and how it applies to the needs of her clients. She is a consummate litigator who has distinguished herself through hard work and dedication to the produce industry. Her meticulous preparation is an invaluable asset in difficult and complex matters, and her polished presentation, whether conducting discovery or appearing before the court, has garnered respect from her colleagues and clients, alike. Katy is a compelling trial attorney, often called upon to travel throughout the country in order to afford her clients their day in court. Katy is also a monthly contributor to Produce and the Law, authoring the column entitled “Dear Ms. Produce Law,” in which she answers the legal questions and concerns sent in to her by members of the produce industry.

Prior to joining Meuers Law Firm in 2002, Katy practiced commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels for four years. Her practice consists of trust enforcement cases under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act, as well as formal and informal reparation cases before the PACA Division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She has litigated cases on behalf of produce sellers in federal district and bankruptcy courts nationwide, and counsels clients regarding compliance with state and federal agricultural dealings and licensing laws. A portion of her practice is also dedicated to negotiating and drafting contracts between growers, agents, brokers and dealers.

Katy is originally from East Lansing, Michigan, and grew up in Tampa, Florida. She is an avid runner and triathlete, frequently participating in events supporting a cure for cancer. She enjoys spending time with her husband, stepson, and their 3 dachshunds.
