Our firm was founded with the help of the legendary Garland D. Cherry, Sr. better known to family and friends as "Bill Cherry," the venerable Delaware County trial lawyer who was admired for his intellect, humility and generosity. As a young lawyer, he began representing Intercontinental Promotions, the promoter for heavyweight prizefighter, Charles "Sonny" Liston. For five years, he served as legal counsel to Intercontinental, drafting all of the contracts for Liston and working closely with Liston's manager, Jack Nilon, during the two championship title fights between Liston and Cassius Clay who later changed his name to Muhammad Ali. He was one of the founding partners of the law firm of Kassab, Cherry & Curran which eventually grew to twenty-six lawyers and became one of the largest law firms in Delaware County.
During his fifty year tenure as a lawyer, he took on challenging cases without regard to political or legal obstacles, handling many high profile criminal and civil cases. Known for his brilliant intellect, exhaustive case preparation and skilled oratory in the courtroom, he developed a reputation as a "lawyer's lawyer," to whom other lawyers and judges turned to for legal advice. A natural born educator, he was a source of inspiration to others, acting as a mentor to younger lawyers. He was elected an Honorary Fellow of the American Academy of Trial Lawyers whose membership is extended only to trial lawyers who have demonstrated the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism and collegiality.
The firm is now under the direction of his son David R. Cherry, J.D., LLM and The Cherry Firm continues to be a leading firm for seriously injured victims. Since the beginning, The Cherry Firm has maintained its commitment to its core founding principal instilled by Bill Cherry: Do what's in the client's best interests.
