Tom primarily practices in the areas of civil and commercial litigation, with an emphasis on real estate related litigation. Tom's practice has allowed him to work on a wide variety of other matters, including collection, bankruptcy, employment, insurance defense, real estate development and leasing, personal injury, securities, general business and corporate law. Prior to joining Givens Pursley in 1998, Tom specialized in the defense of governmental entities and constitutional law.
He is a member of the Idaho Bar Association, as well as the Commercial Law section of the Idaho Bar. While in law school, Tom was on the editorial board of the Idaho Law Review and authored Board Certification and Summary Judgment under the Idaho Medical Malpractice Act: Traps for the Unwary, 29 Idaho L. Rev. 421 (1993). Tom has been rated “BV” by his peers and by local judges through the Martindale Hubble rating process.
While in college, Tom served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. During Operation Desert Storm, Tom served as a non-commissioned officer, and participated as a gunner and tank commander of an M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank in a tank battle on the outskirts of Kuwait City.
Tom was recently honored by being named by the Idaho Business Review as having “reached a level of success that others consider to be significant.” Idaho Business Review 2005 “Accomplished Under Forty” Special Supplement. Tom is on the Board of Directors of The Ride to the Wall Foundation, a non-profit corporation dedicated to raising funds for veterans. Tom volunteers time to represent Court-Appointed Guardians Ad Litems in child abuse cases. The Ada County Court Appointed Special Advocate Program honored him with a special service award for this work.
