Keith E. Drill was born in North Tarrytown, New York in 1961 and attended public schools in Irvington, New York, just north of New York City. He received his A.B. degree from Colgate University, in Hamilton, New York, in 1987, with concentrations in History and Political Science. He received his J.D. degree from Washburn University School of Law, in Topeka, Kansas, in 1987. He joined the firm after graduation from Washburn and has been a shareholder since 1995.
Mr. Drill is admitted to practice in the states of Kansas and Missouri, the federal courts for the District of Kansas and Western District of Missouri, as well as the Eighth, Tenth and Eleventh federal circuit courts of appeal. His practice areas are trial and appellate representation of clients in civil and criminal matters in all courts. He has represented clients in administrative, trial and appellate proceedings in Missouri and Kansas, as well as elsewhere in the country, through affiliation with local counsel. His civil practice includes representing parties in commercial and business disputes, environmental matters, personal injury cases, and other forms of simple and complex civil litigation, as well as in alternative dispute resolution matters, such as mediation and arbitration.
Mr. Drill currently serves as Municipal Judge for the city of Mission, Kansas and served as Mission's Judge pro tem for eight years prior to being appointed Municipal Judge. He also served as Municipal Judge for the city of Roeland Park, Kansas in 1999.
Mr. Drill is a member of the American, Kansas City Metropolitan and Johnson County, Kansas, Bar Associations, as well as the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He has taught continuing legal education programs for attorneys and legal assistants, including authoring handbook chapters on business torts.
Mr. Drill is also active in community, business and civic affairs.
He has been a member of the Mission Area Chamber of Commerce since 1991 and has chaired a number of Chamber committees, including its Business Marketing and Development Committee. He has served on the Chamber's Board of Directors and is currently its legal counsel. In 1991 he served as the Chamber's elected Chairperson.
He has also been a member of the Johnson County Chamber President's Council and served as Chair of that organization in 1999. He is a Past Chair and member of the Board of Directors of Leadership Northeast, a civic and leadership training organization.
Mr. Drill has also served his community for more than twenty years as an emergency medical technician and volunteer firefighter with Consolidated Fire District No. 2 of Northeast Johnson County, Kansas. He also serves as a member and officer of the Mission Fire Department, Inc.
In 1999, he was appointed to the Johnson County Charter Commission, a 25-member citizen's group authorized by the Kansas legislature to study Johnson County government and prepare a charter governing the structure of county government, which was adopted by Johnson County voters in 2000. He currently serves on the Johnson County Charter Review Committee, which monitors the county's compliance with and progress in implementing the charter.
