Jerry Reilly's practice embraces all aspects of intellectual property and related antitrust law, with emphasis on litigation of patent, trademark, copyright, unfair competition, and trade secret claims. He has substantial jury trial experience, including biotech, medical device, and electromechanical patent infringement actions and Lanham Act Section 43(a) actions. His administrative litigation experience includes patent- and trademark-based unfair import proceedings before the U.S. International Trade Commission and, in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, biotech (recombinant DNA) patent interference proceedings and trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings.
Prior to law school, Jerry was a Peace Corps science teacher trainer in Korea. After law school and a judicial clerkship, he was a commercial litigator in New York and subsequently practiced with a prominent IP specialty law firm in Los Angeles, in which he was a partner for 11 years before coming to Jones Day in 2002.
Since 1999, Jerry has been the adjunct associate professor of patent law at Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles. He has been an invited lecturer at legal seminars, symposia, and skills training courses under the auspices of organizations such as the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA), the California Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB), and the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association (LAIPLA). He has served as a board member of the LAIPLA as well as on the Executive Committee of the Intellectual Property & Unfair Competition Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He was a correspondent to the American Intellectual Property Law Association's Subcommittee on Standard Patent Jury Instructions, and he is a member of the litigation, antitrust, and patent sections of the American, New York, and California bars.
