John S. Reed was admitted to practice in Kentucky in 1974. After practicing in Louisville for 22 years, he co-founded RWSV in 1996. Mr. Reed has represented a broad range of clients, from publicly traded Fortune 500 companies to closely held family businesses, including various manufacturing, construction, service and financial concerns and a variety of other entities, including a public university, a thoroughbred stallion breeding syndicate, civic and trade associations, professional firms, and energy exploration and transportation partnerships. Mr. Reed’s extensive litigation experience includes antitrust cases relating to claims of monopolization, price fixing, market allocation and price discrimination; antitrust grand jury proceedings; and Federal Trade Commission investigations. Mr. Reed also has experience defending and prosecuting patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret infringement claims, and has represented clients in cases involving insurance coverage disputes, constitutional challenges, contract disputes and various common law and statutory business tort claims. He has litigated cases in federal and state courts in over a dozen states and is recognized by publications including Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA’s America’s Leading Business Lawyers for his business litigation practice.
Mr. Reed’s counseling practice involves antitrust issues in both traditional and new economy business contexts, including marketing and distribution matters, relationships among competitors and consulting on a variety of business transactions. He has also been involved in the design and implementation of intellectual property licensing programs.
A native of Frankfort, Kentucky, Mr. Reed is a 1974 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law. He earned his A.B. in political science with highest distinction from the University of Kentucky in 1971, where he was member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Mr. Reed is a member of the Kentucky, Louisville and American Bar Associations, the Association of Intellectual Property Lawyers of America and is a life member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference. He served as president of the Louisville Bar Association in 1992. Mr. Reed has served on a number of civic boards, including the National Association for Community Leadership, of which he was chair, the Kentucky Council on Economic Education, The Louisville Collegiate School, and Leadership Louisville Foundation, Inc. He is currently chair of Leadership USA, Inc., of which he is co-founder.
