Don Prather is originally from New Castle, a small town in Henry County. Growing up on a farm on the edge of town, he was very active in the 4H club, being named the 1973 Outstanding 4H Boy in Kentucky.
He also served on the EMS squad in high school and graduated Valedictorian of his class.
He has served as an intern with US Congressman Breckenridge and in 1978 he was an intern for the Legislature Research Commission during the Kentucky General Assembly.
He majored in biology at the University of Kentucky with the intention of going to medical school, but instead he chose to become a lawyer.
While in college he served as a student senator and was one of the two student senators who were elected to represent the student body on the Faculty Senate He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Kentucky and was member of the leadership honorary ODK.
Don started out as an attorney with Jackson Kelly, the largest law firm in West Virginia. However, he soon discovered that he wanted to return to his Kentucky home.
Don has served as an officer and director for the Shelby Development Corporation. He has been active in Habitat for Humanity for many years and president for five years. He has served as a deacon at First Christian Church. He is married with three children. In his spare time Don enjoys boating, warm-water vacations, Jimmy Buffett music, and raising fruit trees.
