Cindy Cwik has extensive experience in complex litigation and class actions, including mass tort, product liability, and consumer class actions. She has had significant victories in several high-profile matters. A journalist who wrote a book about one case involving Cindy described her as "formidable" and "the mastermind behind the team's savvy attack" and added that Cindy's "step-by-step dismantling of [plaintiffs'] case was a study in discipline and focus."
Cindy's experience prior to joining Jones Day includes a mass tort case in which plaintiffs recruited by Erin Brockovich claimed they had developed various diseases from exposure to certain chemicals. Cindy won motions to exclude from evidence the testimony of plaintiffs' medical causation experts and won summary judgment. In another action, after an evidentiary hearing, she excluded the testimony of all seven of plaintiffs' medical experts and won summary judgment. She has extensive experience in defeating class certification and in multidistrict litigation proceedings as well.
Cindy has been recognized as a California "Top Female Litigator" seven times by The Los Angeles/San Francisco Daily Journal, including in 2010. She was recently featured in a front page article in the San Diego Daily Transcript, which described how her attention to scientific detail led to courtroom success.
Cindy is a frequent lecturer and has made presentations to the National Judicial College and the Association of General Counsel. She is currently president of the Executive Committee of the Yale Law School Association and co-chair of the Committee on Scientific Evidence of the ABA's Section of Science and Technology Law.
