Mr. Poplin is a registered patent attorney, and his practice focuses on both transactional and litigated intellectual property matters.  He has extensive knowledge of the patent laws and regulations and spends the majority of his time assisting clients with patent issues.  Mr. Poplin also has experience managing intellectual property portfolios and counseling clients regarding trademark, copyright, licensing, trade secret, infringement avoidance, and confidentiality issues.

In 2003, Mr. Poplin served as a law clerk for Administrative Patent Judge John McQuade at the United States Patent and Trademark Office Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.

In addition to being responsible for more standard patent prosecution (e.g., filing patent applications and responding to actions by the Patent and Trademark Office), Mr. Poplin has prepared and conducted inter partes and ex parte reexaminations, prepared and conducted broadening and narrowing reissues, and has been involved with interferences.

In litigated matters, Mr. Poplin's practice is often directed to technical aspects of intellectual property rights, though he has also worked with expert witnesses and prepared infringement complaints and answers, discovery requests and answers, and briefing.  Mr. Poplin has served as the only registered patent attorney actively involved in various patent infringement cases and has been part of large teams of registered patent attorneys in other cases.
