Matthew T. Fricker joined MWL as a civil litigator and trial attorney with 21 years of experience representing insurance carriers in claims involving personal injury, products liability, MVAs, premises liability, medical malpractice, property damage, construction defects, workers' compensation defense, insurance coverage, and subrogation. Matt received his J.D. from Notre Dame Law School in 1991. Prior to joining MWL, Matt was a Litigation Partner at Gonzalez, Saggio & Harlan in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he defended insurance carriers in personal injury, medical malpractice and construction defect claims. Personal injury defense included claims arising from nursing home negligence, MVAs, property damage, premises liability and wrongful death and severe traumatic injuries. Matt has also served as Senior Litigation Counsel for CNA Insurance Companies where he defended cases arising from general negligence, construction site negligence, premises liability, MVAs, and defective products. He worked directly with claims professionals to evaluate cases upon filing and to develop defense strategies. He also served as Staff Attorney for Zurich North American Insurance Company, where he defended workers' compensation claims and liability claims arising out of MVAs, conditions of premises, truck explosions, defective industrial equipment, and construction defects.
Matt began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for a federal appellate judge and from there joined the Torts Branch of the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Division in Washington, D.C. In that position, Matt defended federal employees and the United States against tort claims alleging violation of constitutional rights and common law torts. He then entered private practice in Wisconsin where he has worked for the past 15 years. He has tried numerous cases to jury verdict in state and federal courts in Wisconsin and has argued before the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
