Stephanie C. Freer joined the firm in 2006 and primarily focuses in family law matters and criminal and traffic defense. She is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Montgomery County Bar Association, Maryland Association for Justice, and the District of Columbia Bar Association and is admitted to practice in both Maryland and D.C.
Mrs. Freer graduated from the University of Southern California and received a degree in Journalism and Public Relations. She worked in advertising and public relations for several years where she honed her people skills and discovered she had a flair for finding creative solutions to people's problems.
Seeking that creative edge, Mrs. Freer turned her attention toward receiving a degree from the acclaimed George Washington University as a Publication Specialist. She then spent almost 8 years as a Graphic Designer for an award-winning international technology services firm that supports a wide range of government clients including many divisions of the Department of Defense and its allies.
During this time, she got married and started a family. But she decided that instead of focusing her work on government entities that she wanted to help real people individuals who found themselves in difficult situations, where she could make a real difference.
She then attended the University of Baltimore School of Law. While in law school, she was the Editor-in-Chief of the law school's administrative newsletter, The Official Reporter. In addition, she was the Articles Editor for the Law Forum, a nationally recognized law journal which focuses on emerging trends in Maryland law. She was also a teaching assistant for the law school's acclaimed and rigorous Legal Analysis Research & Writing Program, teaching first year law students how to effectively write legal briefs and hone their legal research skills.
Mrs. Freer also had the privilege to work under the guidance of senior Circuit Court Judge, the Honorable S. Michael Pincus, where she spent many hours in the courtroom assisting the judge, jury, attorneys and parties in processing hearings and trials. She also worked as a law clerk for a highly-recognized and well-renowned Bethesda, Maryland family law firm, where she sharpened her research and writing abilities, in addition to learning the intricacies and sensitivities necessary to effectively represent clients in family law matters.
Mrs. Freer's combined experience in advertising and design as well as her strong analytical legal research and writing skills give her a unique ability as an attorney to work creatively and zealously to bring the greatest results and resolutions to her clients.
She is certified as a family law mediator focusing on child access issues such as child custody and visitation and has been successful in helping families resolve their differences without the need for lengthy, exhausting, and often expensive litigation. She has also helped parents create co-parenting plans that leave parenting up to the parents, not a judge, as only the family itself is aware of the intricacies of their individual family dynamic. Mrs. Freer has found that the use of co-parenting plans have overwhelming eliminated the need for nasty court battles and allows parents to resolve their differences outside the courtroom while aiding in compromise and understanding, which is always in the best interest of their children.
Mrs. Freer looks forward to carrying on the long-standing tradition that Mr. Cooper started over 40 years ago and hopes to continue to expand on an already successful mission continuing to collect millions more for our clients.
