Mathew Placzek was born in Westfield, Massachusetts on November 27, 1945. Prior to attending college, Matt served in the United States Army, where he was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Korea. He also was deployed to the Dominican Republic during the Dominican Civil War. He graduated from Clark University in Massachusetts in 1969. He then attended law school at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating Order of the Coif (a national honor society for law school graduates in the top ten percent of their class) in May, 1973. During law school, Mr. Placzek clerked for The Honorable Harry L.C. Weier of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District. He moved to Springfield, Missouri, where he has been in private practice ever since, specializing in civil litigation (trials). He founded his law firm in 1986. In 1992, he decided that his practice should be almost exclusively limited to representing injured plaintiffs or their survivors. In the past ten years, he has represented numerous clients to a successful conclusion.
During the course of his legal career, Matt has authored numerous publications, and lectured at seminars on numerous topics relevant to civil litigation at the invitation of The Missouri Bar, University of Missouri, Columbia, and University of Missouri, Kansas City.
He has been married 42 years and has six children, four of whom are attorneys, one a medical doctor, and one a PhD Professor in Geology. His interests and hobbies are centered around outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, skiing, and hiking, as well as travel (he has traveled to all seven continents, including Antarctica).
