Ellen L. Flowers is a partner and director of the Guardianship Law Practice at Abrams, Fensterman, Fensterman, Eisman, Formato, Ferrara & Einiger, LLP.
Ms. Flowers concentrates her practice in the area of Article 81 of the Mental Hygiene Law, which is the New York State guardianship statute. Ms. Flowers has been involved in all aspects of guardianship proceedings, on behalf of facilities and private individuals, petitioners and cross-petitioners, as well as alleged incapacitated persons. In addition, Ms. Flowers has been appointed by the courts in various counties as guardian, court evaluator and counsel for alleged incapacitated individuals.
Ms. Flowers is a member of the Trusts and Estates and Elder Law Sections of the New York State and Nassau County Bar Associations. An authority in the area of guardianship, Ms. Flowers is a frequent lecturer for the state and local bar associations and the Practicing Law Institute regarding guardianship issues. She has also lectured at the request of the Office of Court Administration to court attorneys, court examiners, law clerks, judges, and Mental Hygiene Legal Service attorneys.
Ms. Flowers is an associate editor and contributor to the Guardianship Practice in New York State, a publication of the New York State Bar Association. For her commitment to the association, the New York State Bar nominated Ms. Flowers for Sustaining Membership. She is also a member of the Surrogate Decision Making Committee formed by the State Commission on Quality of Care for the Mentally Disabled. Ms. Flowers is the recent former Co-Chair of the Nassau County Bar Association Elder Law Committee
Ms. Flowers received her law degree from Hofstra University School of Law and her undergraduate degree from Adelphi University cum laude.
