Aubra Fletcher received a B.A. degree cum laude from Trinity University, where she studied English literature, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and studied abroad in Central America.  Prior to law school, she worked as a paralegal at the Political Asylum Project of Austin, supervising paralegal at the Law Office of Robert B. Jobe, and client advocate at Bay Area Legal Aid.  She also volunteered for the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies.

While in law school at U.C. Berkeley (Boalt Hall), she worked for the World Organisation Against Torture in Geneva, Switzerland; the American Civil Liberties Union in New York and San Francisco; and the Superior Court of California in Alameda County.  She studied in Boalt's International Human Rights Law Clinic and was a member of Boalt's Queer Caucus.  For the Berkeley Journal of Gender, Law & Justice she served as executive editor, articles editor, and student author of The Real I.D. Act: Furthering Gender Bias in U.S. Asylum Law.

Aubra's teaching experience includes guest lectures on sexual identity/orientation issues in asylum law, at U.C. Davis and Mill College.  She also served as a graduate student instructor in U.C. Berkeley's undergraduate Sex, Reproduction, and the Law course in 2008.

Following law school, Aubra worked for the Office of the Special Master in Farrell v. Cate, litigation addressing institutional conditions, programs, and services in the former California Youth Authority.
