Stephanie Couhig's practice includes client counseling on environmental compliance requirements, support of environmental litigation defense, environmental due diligence in support of business transactions, and the development and presentation of environmental claims against chapter 11 debtors. She has advised clients with respect to potential liabilities and defended clients in litigation associated with federal Superfund sites as well as sites subject to state cleanup obligations. She has also defended clients in litigation arising under the Clean Water Act and the natural resource damage provisions of CERCLA. Her compliance work has covered Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, hazardous waste, and community right-to-know regulatory issues. Stephanie has negotiated environmental consulting agreements and has managed outside environmental consultants on projects involving multimillion dollar liabilities. Stephanie also has conducted environmental due diligence and negotiated environmental contract provisions in support of business transactions. She has advised clients regarding potential environmental insurance coverage in support of business transactions. Her clients have included manufacturers in the electronics, chemicals, tire, and plastics industries along with institutional investors.
Prior to beginning her legal career, Stephanie used her engineering training as an environmental consultant, where she completed numerous environmental site assessments, assisted clients with environmental permitting issues, and counseled clients on brownfield redevelopment matters.
Stephanie is a member of the Cleveland and Ohio State Bar Associations.
